Garbed in simple jeans and T-shirt - with absolutely no make-up on - Kelly Clarkson passed off as a tourist when she checked in at the KL Hilton at 11.30pm last night.
Seriously, the brightest American Idol winner, who has earned the Grammy nods and still holds the record as the biggest-selling artiste to have emerged from the hit reality show - 23 million copies of her four studio albums sold worldwide and counting - managed to dodge almost everyone at the hotel with her low-key appearance. You had to do a double take to recognise her.
Kelly, who is currently on her Asia Pacific tour, flew in from Australia for an eagerly awaited concert here, scheduled to be held at the Putra Indoor Stadium on Sunday.
Amidst tight security, the pop star declined to be photographed, telling her concert organiser, the Galaxy Group that she's dressed "too sloppily". But Kelly assured fans that her concert here would be a blast. And the protest against her in Indonesia would not deter her from delivering her best.
Earlier, the power-lunged singer came under fire in Indonesia due to her concert there being sponsored by a well-known cigarette brand, L.A. Lights. Following protests from her fans and anti-smoking groups, her management called off their partnership with the tobacco company.
"I refuse to cancel on my fans," Kelly wrote on her blog. "I'm not a smoker and I certainly don't advocate it."
She is expected to have a field day today, meeting her chief sponsor, Hotlink and recording a special TV interview with Star World, the official broadcaster for the American Idol franchise.
There might also be a surprise birthday bash for her in KL - as the singer turns 28 on April 24!
