Brother of MU striker assaulted

The brother of Manchester United striker Mame Biram Diouf is recovering from an attack by rival fans outside Manchester City's stadium on Saturday.

Abdul Diouf watched United beat its fierce city rival 1-0 in the English Premier League with an injury-time goal before a group of home fans spotted the United shirt he was wearing as he left.

He was punched and kicked to the ground, but was not seriously injured.

Diouf's agent, Jim Solbakken, said his client's brother was fine and they decided against making a complaint to the police over the attack.

"The case is closed," Solbakken said. "He was walking about in a Manchester United shirt. It wasn't a smart thing to do."

Greater Manchester Police confirmed they had not received a report about the incident and were therefore not planning to take any action.

Manchester City has not received any complaint either.

Abdul Diouf's shirt was adorned with the No. 32 his brother wears for United. The number was previously worn at United by striker Carlos Tevez before his contentious cross-city transfer to City in July.

Tevez's arrival at City was marked by a huge poster in Manchester taunting United fans over his move and the Argentina forward has since scored 22 Premier League goals to put City in contention for a first ever spot in the Champions League.

Relations between the clubs were further inflamed when Tevez publicly insulted United captain Gary Neville in January.

Mame Biram Diouf joined United from Molde in the same month City signed Tevez, loaning the Senegal striker back to the Norwegian club while he applied for a British work permit.

Diouf has yet to start a Premier League game but has made five substitute appearances and scored his first club goal in the last minute of January's 3-0 win over Burnley.
