Three youths who posed as cops and raped a 38-year-old woman at Kattipalayam in Karur district were arrested.
Sakthivel (45) of Paramthi Vellore in Namakkal district along with his wife Lakshmi (38) had been fishing on the bank of Cauvery at Kattipalayam in Karur district on Sunday evening when the three youths came there in plain clothes and introduced themselves as cops. They threatened the couple for fishing in the area without lease.
When the couple apologised, the youths attacked Sakthivel with a log of wood and let him off. But they retained Lakshmi on the garb of taking her to the police station for an enquiry.
Later, the youths allegedly took her to a shed in a desolate area and raped her.
On a complaint lodged by Sakthivel at Velayudhampalayam police station, police registered a case and conducted enquiry.
Based on the inputs provided by Sakthivel on the identity of the culprits, police arrested Prakash (25) of Kattipalayam, Dhanabal (18) and Mohanraj (24) of Thavittupalayam.
