Manisha’s new avatar

Last week, Manisha Koirala was in Chennai shooting for the Suraj-directed Maapillai, which is a remake of Rajinikanth’s film of the same name that had released about two decades ago.

Manisha was at one time the hottest heroine in Tamil cinema with a string of hits like Bombay, Indian and Mudhalvan. After playing the lead in the forgettable Baba with Rajinikanth, the actress is now making a comeback in Kollywood as Dhanush’s arrogant mother-in-law in Maapillai. The latest is that though Manisha has been flooded with offers from Kollywood filmmakers casting her in character roles, she has signed art house Malayalam director Shyama Prasad’s latest film titled Electra in which she will play Nayanthara’s mother! The film, which is based on a Greek play, will have Manisha essaying an author-backed role. Prakash Raj will play her husband in this flick.

Says Manisha, “I have done my share of commercial masala movies but now, I want to move on and do meaningful films. When Shyam narrated the script of Electra, it got me hooked. I’m the pivot around which the first half of the film revolves. I’m looking forward to doing the film, which will start rolling in April.”
