Indian wife cost Rs.40,000

An FIR has been registered against a man from Aurangabad district who allegedly sold his young wife for a sum of Rs 40,000 after taking her to Mumbai on the pretext of providing her a job.

Irfan Mian, a daily wage earner took his 22-year-old wife Rehana to Mumbai on the pretext of a job and deserted her at a house promising to return soon, according to the FIR.

Later, the owner of the house informed Rehana that he had purchased her from Irfan for a sum of Rs 40,000 and she should follow his orders.

Rehana, however, managed to call up her parents who got her rescued some days back after returning the amount, the FIR, lodged against Irfan and three of his family at Aurangabad Town police station by Rehana's family, said.

The deputy superintendent of police, Mr D.P. Singh, said Irfan and his family members are absconding.
