Brazilian goalie suspected of beating girlfriend to death
Police say they'll question the goalie of Flamengo, one of Brazil's most popular soccer teams, in the disappearance and possible death of a 25-year-old woman said to be the mother of his child.
Police chief Alessandra Wilke in the central Brazilian town of Contagem told TV Globo that Flamengo club's Bruno is suspected along with two friends of having beaten Eliza Samudio, who has been missing for three weeks.
Wilke said Sunday that Samudio "probably died and they hid the body."
She also said that police believe Samudio to be the mother of a child from a relationship with the 25-year-old Bruno, whose full name is Bruno Fernandes de Sousa.
Michel Assef Filho is a lawyer for Bruno and for Rio-based Flamengo. He told Globo TV that the player insists he is innocent
